7 Games I Like Due to Aesthetics

7 Games I Like Due to Aesthetics

The adage “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is said as an advice for those who tend to judge quality by appearance because humans tend to do the opposite. Most human beings do judge things by aesthetics, so they’re not to be seen as mere decoration but a substantial part of our world view. This applies to video games as well, although judging their appearances is not from a cover art or such, but how the actual game looks. (more…)

My Thoughts on Game Reviews

Video Games logo

After taking ye olde sweet time to get another video uploaded after the This is the Police review while still having a mental block, I used said mental block as inspiration for a non-review video. What came from it is a commentary of sorts on the thing I should be doing more of on the channel and blog, which are game reviews. (more…)

This is the Police — Police Drudgery Simulator [Review]

This is the Police

This review was planned a month back, but it only got finished now, but it’s somehow still relevant due to current events. There are also quite a few layers to This is the Police, which made for a harder review, but it did get boiled down to a few points due to the latter portions of its gameplay. As good of a concept as it was, and as good of a narrative experience as it had been, I ended up with a ‘meh’. (more…)

Overwatch — Sombra’s Way

Overwatch — Sombra | Avoiderdragon

In a concerted effort to create more content in the style of video essays that I love watching so much, here is one I made for Overwatch, specifically the new character Sombra. I have to admit that it’s not the most solid of videos I could’ve made as it doesn’t even scratch the surface and may have gotten some things wrong in it. Nonetheless, I do hope it opens the floodgates for more presentations like this in the coming weeks. (more…)

Mafia Retrospective — Heaven Lost in Time

Mafia Retrospective: Heaven Lost in Time | Avoiderdragon

This post is indeed late since this video was posted the week before, garnering a significant number of views compared to previous videos. In an effort to keep the channel and blog growing, there will be more videos like this, even on anime, films, TV shows, and so on just for kicks. In the meantime, to go with the recent release of Mafia III, here is a retrospective review on the first game of the franchise—Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. (more…)

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided — Pre-Order Disorder [Review]

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided | Avoiderdragon

The review video is taking me quite a while (as of this writing), and it has been weeks since this game came out, but I like it more than enough to trudge through this review for it. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is certainly a Deus Ex game in terms of proportion between its strengths and flaws. For the most part, it has retained most of what makes a Deus Ex game what it is, but the gameplay feels less clunky. However, the narrative itself is just as clunky, so fans should feel right at home. (more…)

Overwatch — Practicing with Tracer

Tracer from Overwatch

So it has been months since Overwatch officially came out, and I haven’t been playing it as much as I should. But within my limited play time, I’ve only gotten competent with three heroes—D.Va, Soldier 76, and Junkrat. Despite my best efforts, I consciously feel the limits of these characters during gameplay, and those limits are getting worse over time. Perhaps it’s due to lack of practice, but I think that can also be remedied by practicing with more challenging characters like Tracer. (more…)

Battlefield 1 Open Beta First Impressions

Battlefield 1

For once, I actually get to the open beta of a game and actually make a video out of it, which is something I’ve been wanting to do for this blog for quite a while now. Then again, this is a AAA game, so it wasn’t that hard to remember to get into it. It was also not that big since it’s just a multiplayer preview available for a week, so it was just bells and whistles and wasn’t hard to download at all. Battlefield 1 was met with skepticism, but I have to say it could actually bring the Battlefield franchise back from the heaping pile of failure it had been in recent years (commercially successful but technically unsound). StarCraft HD and the Pitfalls of Updating a Classic

StarCraft HD rumors

Since Blizzard doesn’t seem to be refuting the rumors as of this writing, perhaps StarCraft HD is indeed about to become a reality. As good as StarCraft II may be, it’s still overshadowed by the legacy of Brood War and its storied reign as the king of real-time strategy for 14 years. But with this recent development, it seems that Blizzard is acknowledging the enormity of StarCraft: Brood War‘s legacy, thus updating the game to run better on newer systems. Now if they’d do it for WarCraft III as well. (more…)

Pokemon GO Hate, Piss, and Vinegar

Pokemon GO Hate

This video may have been ill-advised as I decided to do it out of a whim after seeing so many people showing some form of contempt for Pokemon GO, as many do when something becomes popular all of a sudden. What I came up with is more of a plea to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Mind you, I know it’s mostly pointless to convince dicks on the Internet to not be dicks, but at least I get a video out of it. (more…)

Atomas Review — Simple Chemistry

Atomas by Sirnic

As you may have noticed on this blog, there aren’t a lot of posts concerning mobile games. There are some, but they’re not what tended to be massively popular at the moment (excluding the Clash Royale review). In this case, I was able to play one that I quite liked, which is certainly not Pokemon GO that has just been released and is taking the Internet by storm as of this writing. This is Atomas, which was released a year before but is still worth looking at. (more…)
